Strategic Theorists

Strategic Management was born in the 50’s and 60’s when there was a need for efficiency in growing industries to ensure that managers were working in a coordinated way to move the organisation forward. Many of the famous strategic theorists wrote about their ideas and solutions to ensure success for organisations. The earliest strategic writers were Alfred Chandler, Philip Selznick, Igor Ansoff, and Peter Drucker. Then later on in the 80’s as the strategic style of management became much more accepted there were more theorists aiming to provide organisations with the winning combination of management styles that would prove successful. These were specialists such as Tom Peters and Robert Waterman as well as Michael Porter who was renowned for bringing in the concept of competitive advantage.
