What is Strategic?
There are many different definitions of strategy and strategic but many follow the same lines. The most important aspects are that a strategy generally falls over a long term and it is a policy that will achieve advantage of the organisation as it drives forwards instilling the same values and beliefs into the organisation. A strategy will use efficiently all of the company’s internal and external resources and also consider the environment and changes that may occur.
An issue can be considered to be strategic if it has been logically forecasted or a strong possibility of it occurring. It has to come from the external environment and if it is not addressed that will have serious consequences on the organisation. With external issues that occur in the short term it has to be clear what actions are strategic and what are classed as damage limitation.
