Why is Strategic Planning Different?

Strategic planning can be a whole new way for an organisation to plan their future. It differs from other forms of planning in many ways. Strategic planning has a lot of emphasis on the external environment, whereas other planning normally looks only internally to the organisation. Strategic planning is vision directed and works towards change, but other planning methods follow a set blue print and aim for stability. Strategic planning stands out from all the other planning models and needs to be accepted by organisations to allow for success and for profits to be optimised.

The main focus of strategic planning it to take on and develop new ideas and build on innovation and creativity. All the plans and decisions are aimed towards effectiveness and decisions will be made in patterns rather than just made and carried out. The main purpose of a strategy is so that the plan for the future of the company can be shared and developed within the whole organisation. It allows the resources such as the staff to feel empowered and involved with the company’s future and for them to be able to understand the values and beliefs behind the organisation.
