The Importance of the Environment

Over the last few years there have been several factors that have made the need to add in a strategic dimension into management more important for an organisation. These factors arise from the changing external environment surrounding the organisation and include the following:

  • Customers have increased expectations in terms of quality of products and services

  • Many processes have been revolutionised due to the rise of technological developments

  • There is increased competition in world and domestic markets

  • There has been action taken by governments against certain industries with the increase of environmental concern   

  • More focus on consumer rights

  • Better worldwide communication increasing the flow of information

  • There have been changes in major markets to the political situation

These changing factors have to be considered when planning a company strategy and it is one of the parts of the environment that is constantly changing and unpredictable for the long term.
